Basch it up! 2012
- Published in Fashion News
On March 5th as the evening sprung, the Basch it up competition launched with gathering ten of the most talented young designers in all of Ontario’s post-secondary fashion programs to compete in-front of well known judges and an exclusive audience with unforgettable designs on the runway. On the catwalk, the Elite and Sutherland models took on a classier, more elegant look consisting of two pieces with slim skirts and chenille. The cocktail dresses pleasantly dominated the evening outfits, some of them with V necklines as others were with ruffled collars. The ruffles also decorated the underside of skirts and dresses. In this section, the apparel was more colourful with a mix of different textures. Black velvet dresses, fur boleros, sequins, and compelling satin dresses that left the audience and judges mesmerized. And who could have missed the classic satin gala dress, silk gowns and the alluring low back gowns? The judges were composed of three of the best designers in the country: David Dixon, Arthur Mendonça and Wesley Badanjak; who crowned Sarah McGowan, a George Brown College student as the winner of the Basch competiton. Sarah voiced her dream, which was “to make clothes that women will wear and love”, which is undoubtedly achievable considering that her designs and mini-collection will be marketed across North America through well-known Basch agencies. And it doesn’t stop there for Sarah, being the winner of Basch It Up also secured her a six-month paid internship position at Eleven Floor Apparel! The conclusion of the event was pleasantly handed down to Wesley Badanjak with an unforgettable sneak peak of the LOVAS FW 2012 Collection. Black and ivory faded patterns, snake printed in blue dresses, leather gloves with jewellery details and military buttoned coats in beige and burgundy, every texture polished, every colour fitting, and every detail of the designs perfected! If you’re ready to see more of Badanjak’s exquisite collection, then don’t miss it on the highly anticipated Toronto Fashion Week runway!
